Who We Are
The Norwalk Islamic Community Center (NICC) serves as a cornerstone for Muslims in the Fairfield County area. Established to promote spiritual growth, education, and community engagement, NICC welcomes individuals and families of all backgrounds.
Our mission is to strengthen our connection with Allah (SWT), uphold Islamic values, and build a supportive, inclusive community rooted in compassion, learning, and service.
Our Sheikh
Imam Sheikh Mohamed
Sheikh Mohamed serves as the spiritual leader of NICC, offering guidance through Friday khutbahs, Qur’an classes, youth mentorship, and community counseling.
With years of religious education and service, Sheikh Mohamed is committed to nurturing spiritual growth, answering community questions, and fostering a strong connection to the Qur’an and Sunnah.
Our goal is to build a community that lives its faith with sincerity, balance, and purpose.

With a background in investment banking, financial & operational management, and technology, SherAfgan brings strategic insight and strong leadership to NICC.
Mehmood Alghamri
Board Member
Mahmoud Alghamri is a board-certified pharmacist and scientist with 15+ years of experience in research, academia, and clinical pharmacy.

Board Member
A long-time Norwalk resident and NICC founding member, he leads logistics across events and supports various technology needs across the community.

A long-serving and cherished NICC board member with deep ties across Norwalk and the tri-state region.
Naurin Hashmi
Board Member
An attorney with 15+ years of experience specializing in education law and co-principal of NICC Sunday School.
Saba Zahid
Board Member
A senior executive in financial services, professor at Columbia University, and Sunday School Level 1 teacher passionate about youth development.

A UN development specialist with 20+ years of experience supporting NICC in fundraising and community growth.
